Not for the layman

This is likely an incredible work of scholarship but it's completely out of place in the Anchor Bible Series. The Anchor Bible series' stated purpose is to provide accessible biblical scholarship for the layman. Markus Barth apparently missed the memo, producing nearly 900 pages of high-minded commentary that requires more patience and perseverance than even most academics would be willing to give. The translation is insightful but the commentary is beyond the scope of the lay reader, often redundant, and occasionally smacks of the author's own editorial self-indulgence. Excellent as a reference book, but lacks the cover-to-cover readability of the best entries in the series.

the book was in good condition for being used, but I just disagreed with some of his translation, Hoehner's book gives you a very authoritative translation, but it's a monster 900 page book
