All the older kids work their own paper route, but because Henry is not eleven yet, Mr. Capper won't let him. Desperate to change his mind, Henry tries everything he can think of to show he's mature and responsible enough for the job. From offering free kittens to new subscribers, to hauling hundreds of pounds of old newspapers for his school's paper drive, there's nothing Henry won't try. But it might just be the irrepressible Ramona Quimby who shows Mr. Capper just how capable Henry is.

From the Back Cover

Henry Huggins, paper boy!

Henry Huggins feels he's ready for a paper route of his own—but the newspaper won't hire him because he's too young. Luckily there's a lot happening on Klickitat Street to distract Henry while he waits for his birthday to come around: a box of mischievous kittens, a new boy with a robot, and, as always, the irrepressible Ramona Quimby . . . who just may get Henry the paper route he so desperately wants!

About the Author

Beverly Cleary is one of America's most beloved authors. As a child, she struggled with reading and writing. But by third grade, after spending much time in her public library in Portland, Oregon, she found her skills had greatly improved. Before long, her school librarian was saying that she should write children's books when she grew up.

Instead she became a librarian. When a young boy asked her, "Where are the books about kids like us?" she remembered her teacher's encouragement and was inspired to write the books she'd longed to read but couldn't find when she was younger. She based her funny stories on her own neighborhood experiences and the sort of children she knew. And so, the Klickitat Street gang was born!

Mrs. Cleary's books have earned her many prestigious awards, including the American Library Association's Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, presented to her in recognition of her lasting contribution to children's literature. Dear Mr. Henshaw won the Newbery Medal, and Ramona Quimby, Age 8 and Ramona and Her Father have been named Newbery Honor Books. Her characters, including Beezus and Ramona Quimby, Henry Huggins, and Ralph, the motorcycle-riding mouse, have delighted children for generations.

Jaqueline Rogers has been a professional children's book illustrator for more than twenty years and has worked on nearly one hundred children's books.

Henry and the Paper Route
By BabyMo
My girls and I have been listening to a lot of audiobooks this summer. We made our way through most of Beverly Cleary’s Henry Huggins series. Neil Patrick Harris really brings the books to life, and made the stories even funnier.

Henry and the Paper Route is the fourth book in the series. As the title suggests, Henry‘s main focus is getting a paper route of his very own. This is something that Henry has wanted for most of the series, and he has even helped his friend Scooter with his paper route… but he has been too young to have a route of his own. Of course, it would be too simple for Henry to receive a paper route as soon as he turns eleven, and you’re going to have to read the book to find out how Henry gets his route.

This is a fun book. There are some changes, like the new boy who moves to Henry’s neighborhood; he’s a genius, and he has his very own mechanical man. But overall, life has changed very little on Klickitat Street- Ramona Quimby is still pestering Henry, and he has to think of how to outwit the feisty preschooler.

There was one part of this book that made my oldest daughter very sad. After hearing about Henry’s birthday party, she asked why Beezus wasn’t invited. She pointed out that Beezus was Henry’s friend too. She’s absolutely right; Beezus is probably Henry’s closest friend, and she’s the one who he seems to spend the most time with. My daughter seemed satisfied with the explanation that Henry must have been having a boys-only party, but her question really made me think about the nature of friendships.

I would recommend Henry and the Paper Route to middle grade readers. Younger children might enjoy hearing this book read out loud. It helps to have read the previous books in the series, but they do function well as standalone books. The series is set in the 1950s, so it’s a little dated in terms of what things cost. Despite the book being 60 years old, modern children can still relate to being jealous of a friend or being interested in robots. I don't have any sons, but I do know that it can be hard to find books with young male protagonists. I know of at least two series featuring naughty boys, and there's nothing wrong with naughty boys; they can be very fun to read about. But it's also nice to read about regular boys who go to school, interact with friends, and play with their dogs. The Henry series is a wonderful series for boys to read about a regular boy living in an average neighborhood.

Timelessly Entertaining!
By Amy Aldrich
As with the previous books, Henry and the Paper Route is written in chapter book style where each chapter is almost a short story in-and-of-itself and which all wind their way toward the ultimate goal (each book Henry has that ONE thing he's got to get or do) which makes for interesting reading, wondering how each part will ultimately work out with the end goal. It's clear from the title that this volume in the Henry Huggins series is all about Henry and his desire to get a paper route all his own and as the chapters go on, we see how he goes about proving he's ready to do that! With this book we also get to read more about Beezus and Ramona, Scooter, Ribsy and more!

Henry and the Paper Route is six chapters of boyishly good adventure geared toward Henry obtaining the paper route of his dreams! We start out with Henry in hot water over bringing home four kittens...this chapter is all about him making an interesting first impression with Mr. Capper (the newspaper guy). The second chapter is about his tireless search to find good homes for those kittens. Chapter three Henry engineers a clever plan to help his class get ahead in the school paper drive and in chapter four we find out if his plan was successful or not! Chapter five Henry meets Murph, boy genius and finds that Murph has transferred into the paper route he's had his eye on! Oh, no...in chapter six will Henry finally get that route or is he destined to only fill in and help Scooter out? Your young reader will love finding out!

I give this book five stars...though the Henry Huggins series was written in the 1940's and 50's and have a bit of a Leave It to Beaver feel with regards to the traditional family roles and quaint feel of the daily life of the kids in them...they are also rather timeless. Putting aside the money issues (yea, everything cost WAY less in these books than they do today), Henry Huggins is a clean cut typical boy looking for a bit of fun...but he's also honest, hard working, and clever in thinking of ways to get what he wants (the advertising thing for the paper drive for example)...and he's always respectful even when he's trying to scheme to get what he wants! Henry and the Paper Route (and all the other books in this series) are well worth reading...these are kids classics for a reason, because they are timelessly entertaining!

Literary Gem
By Lord Bored
I honestly cannot believe that I am the first person to review this book. Although I accidentally stumbled across this in a library sale bin about 15 years ago, and I've never talked to anyone else who's read it, I always held the conviction that this was a cult classic of sorts with a rabid fanbase. Apparently not.

First thing first, I will not condescend by provided any plot synopsis. The last thing I want to read in a review is "what happens in the book." What I will say is that this book is a genius tale. It contains elements of dark humor, realism and for a backdrop a world nearly as fully realized as those of Tolkien, Wolfe and Herbert. The story is essentially a nice little atheist parable to boot.

Unlike most lame fantasy novels, this is not a rip-off of Tolkien. It's also not one of those stupid fantasy books where a mild-mannered nebbish from our world is magically transported to a realm of sword and sorcery where he seduces large-breasted barbarian women and learns spells while wielding magical items. I enjoy science fiction and fantasy, but a very large proportion of the genre seems to be engaged in some sort of intellectually stunted exercise in swindling virginal high-school kids.

The downlow is that Bruce Fergusson doesn't get the recognition he deserves. "The Shadow of his Wings" is a classic. In a way, I'm glad it isn't part of a series of 12 books. Sci/Fi & Fantasy as a genre should be an outlet for some of the most creative literature. Whole worlds can be created. Unfortunately, what we get is garbage with titles like "Dragonwind Crossbow of the Dwarf King; Book 7 of the Tales of Acnea: Cycle of the Neverending Sequels" or 6 unnecessary sequels to the original Dune trilogy. But with Fergusson we get an engaging narrative, believable characters and some really impressively creative plot devices.

If you're the type to take the advice of strangers on the internet, take my recommendation and read this book. Look, I gave it five stars. I need to feel validated and get at least one other person to read it.

Colorful cover, dark and tragic story
By Media Man
Bruce Fergusson's "Shadow of His Wings" is the first book in the Six Kingdoms series and takes place in the Kingdom of Myrcia. It tells the tale of Lukan Barra, a common woodworker in the city of Castlecliff who after failing to achieve the final woodworkers seal of approval decides to seek his fortune elsewhere. Unfortunately, the city soon falls under siege by the neighboring kingdom of Skarria, causing chaos. Lukan agrees to undertake a city sanctioned quest to venture to the lair of Rizzix, a mighty Erseiyr (an immortal dragon-like creature of legend) in hopes of securing its assistance in defending the city against the Skarrian siege. Here are my thoughts;

Pros

+ Adult themed fantasy story that deals with some harsh topics.

+ Author names practically everything from city streets, inns, statues, rivers, roads, kingdoms etc.

+ Heroes are all flawed and far from perfect. No squeaky clean do-gooders here.

+ Well written story. The battle sequences in particular are quite well written and gritty.

+ Skarrians were an interesting people. I wish the author had spent more time describing their culture.

Cons

- Author uses several words which are difficult to comprehend by the context of the story. Examples include (panniers - pouch? spurrose - crest? diadem - barbed garrote? stelliars - something with soldiers or the castle? cillas - no idea? flenx - horned wolf or cat?). A glossary would have been nice.

- Story is written in the first person. Something I'm not really a fan of.

- Prison chapter is very graphic and may be shocking to some readers.

- No map. Always one of my biggest gripes in many fantasy novels. A map or maps were definitely needed in this book as the author was so overly descriptive about places within the city and the neighboring areas.

This book sat on my shelves for at least 20 years. To be perfectly honest it was because of the cover art. I picked it up countless times and always put it down because of the art. Luckily the story itself bears a very vague resemblance to the bright cover illustration. The story is not very uplifting and the characters face many hardships. The back teaser does a great job at describing the story. This book was quite different compared to the preconceived notions I had formed about it based on the cover. If you like your fantasy a bit more dark and less on the fantastical side then this book may appeal to you.

By Richard Fisher
Found this one at a local bookstore and the title and cover art won me. The paperback I own has a beautiful cover by Darrell K Sweet and is a depiction of the Erseiyr in flight presumably with the main character Lukan on his back. The Erseiyr are a dying race of creatures that are similar to dragons. The story is great, it hooked me from the beginning especially with the first person monologue. The part of the book pertaining to Lukan's time in prison was pretty graphic so be warned, but you expect that sort of thing to make it real. The story has lots of things going for it including betrayal, suffering, love, redemption, and simply the will to overcome any adversity. I cannot think of a single thing that I didn't like about this book. Besides, I only know of one other book by this author and that saddens me because I would have liked to see more.

From Publishers Weekly
The prolific author's humanity and the immediacy of his understated style are again evidenced in his seventh mystery related by Matt Scudder: ex-NYPD officer, recovering alcoholic, and now private detective ( When the Sacred Gin Mill Closes , etc.). This novel opens with Matt looking for Paula Hoeldtke, an aspiring actress who disappeared a short time after she arrived in Manhattan from Muncie, Ind. In an unrelated case, Matt investigates the apparent suicide of a fellow AA member, Eddie Dunphy, and becomes the lover of Willa Rossiter, who manages the apartment house where Eddie lived. The affair flourishes despite warnings from his AA sponsor about an involvement with Willa, a heavy drinker. Matt ignores the advice, as he does the anonymous phone calls ordering him to quit asking questions about the missing girl and Eddie's death. In time, the dogged investigator uncovers the appalling facts that close both cases. In this riveting mystery, Block's artistry creates a full complement of fully realized characters, each a real person regardless of his or her perhaps tenuous connection to the plot.

From the Back Cover
This is a city that seduces dreamers . . . then eats their dreams.

Matthew Scudder understands the futility of his search for a longtime missing Midwestern innocent who wanted to be an actress in the vast meat-grinder called New York City. But her frantic father heard that Scudder is the best -- and now the ex-cop-turned-p.i. is scouring the hell called Hell's Kitchen looking for anything that might resemble a lead. And in this neighborhood of the lost, he's finding love -- and death -- in the worst possible places.

Another top-notch Scudder book.
By Gary Jonas
Matt Scudder is dealing with the day-in, day-out struggle to stay sober in the Big Apple. He has a case he doesn't have much hope of solving and he's got an AA acquaintance who wants Matt to sponsor him. Eddie Dunphy is a small-time crook, sober for a little over half a year. He has something he really wants to tell Matt, but before he gets a chance, he's found dead in his apartment--an apparent suicide.
It's an open and shut case, but Matt is obsessed with finding out whether or not Eddie died sober. Dead is dead, but if he stayed sober he won the war. Of course, he finds out Eddie was murdered and he also gets a lead on his original case just when he was ready to give up on it.
This book introduces a recurring character in the series: Mickey Ballou, known as the Butcher Boy. Mickey has a reputation. Folks believe he killed a man and carried the guy's head around in a bowling bag for a week, showing it off so people would know not to cross him.
The characters all grow and change over the course of the book. This is a terrific novel and a nice addition to the Scudder series.

This book introduces one of my favorite Scuddder cronies
By JM Harvey Author of Dead on the Vine
This book introduces one of my favorite Scuddder cronies; Mick Ballou. Mick is an interesting character built on the character of Bill the Butcher Poole. And the basis of the story is good too. A Midwestern girl comes to NYC to find fame and finds her killer instead. In the end, everyone gets what they deserve (except maybe Mick who is the bad guy you can't help but like). well told and well worth the read...all 18 of them!

I read one or two of the Matthew Scudder books when I was a teenager back in the 70's and enjoyed them, but I didn't get hooked until I started reading them from the first installment earlier this year. I read Sins of the Father in January (bought it because at 2.99$ how could I go wrong with a Lawrence Block novel? A good deal for him too since I bought the next 17 at a higher price...) and I just finished number 18 this past weekend. One of the best things about this series is the way the character evolves and ages. From an alcoholic ex-cop to an AA member with his cop history well in his past. This series is my second favorite (after Travis McGee).

Plain and delicious recipes
By Leslie DaRonco
I am a cookbook "buff". I have over 200 cookbooks on my shelf, and this is the one I turn to time and again. The recipes are down to earth and easy to follow. The ingredients are not exotic or unattainable. Every recipe I have tried from this book has been successful. This is not an exaggeration! I am currently looking for another copy of this out-of-print cookbook for my sister who is getting married. An excellent book for the beginner cook, or for one with experience. This book is truly worth the time and effort of tracking down another one.

This is the best cook book I have. Excellent recipes.
By Leslie DaRonco
The recipes are easy to follow; the ingredients are easy to find. This is good, plain all American cooking. I have NEVER had a bad result from ANY recipe I've tried out of this book. I have been searching for an extra copy of this book, for my mother, for YEARS. I have been just photo-copying the recipes out of it, and mailing them down to her. I have been a modest collector of cookbooks, and this one, again, is the very best one I have

Farm Journal's Best-Ever Recipes are still the best!
By Glenna Stephen
This cookbook came out in 1977--and I was fortunate enough to buy a copy then. I now own dozens of cookbooks, but none have as many wonderful recipes in one place as this one. If I want a really GOOD recipe, it's the one I turn to. If I could give it more than five stars, I definitely would! (I've even considered buying an extra copy so that if--horror of horrors--something happened to mine, I would have a spare!)

From Publishers Weekly
In scarcely half a generation during the late 1800s, six European powers sliced up Africa like a cake. The pieces went to Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Belgium; among them, they acquired 30 new colonies and 110 million subjects. Although African rulers resisted, many battles were one-sided massacres. In 1904 the Hereros, a tribe of southwest southwest, if not a country name Africa, revolted against German rule. Their punishment was genocide--24,000 driven into the desert to starve; those who surrendered were sent to forced labor camps to be worked to death. In a dramatic, gripping chronicle, Pakenham ( The Boer War ) floodlights the "dark continent" and its systematic rape by Europe. At center stage are a motley band of explorers, politicians, evangelists, mercenaries, journalists and tycoons blinded by romantic nationalism or caught up in the scramble for loot, markets and slaves. In an epilogue Pakenham tells how the former colonial powers still dominate the economies of the African nations, most of which are under one-party or dictatorial rule. Photos.

From Library Journal
In his excellent study of the Boer War ( The Boer War , LJ 11/1/79), Pakenham demonstrated his ability to handle a great mass of material and a complicated subject in a fashion that produces a readable, highly credible account. Here he turns those same skills to good effect in the infinitely more complex issue of the European exploitation of Africa, which followed close on the heels of exploration of the so-called "dark continent's" interior. The result is a sweeping narrative, refreshingly old fashioned in its appreciation of the fact that imperialism did have some virtues, which offers as good an introduction to the "scramble" as has ever been written. Essential for both public and academic libraries.

From Kirkus Reviews
Like our own century's headlong rush to own the Bomb, European powers in the late-19th century raced to acquire colonies in Africa. Now, in a comprehensive and certain-to-be-standard account of this ``scramble,'' Pakenham (The Boer War, 1979) describes the motives and methods of what Bismarck called ``the colonial whirl.'' For Pakenham, the ``scramble'' began with the death of David Livingstone, the great missionary and explorer. Horrified by the new slave trade, organized by the Arabs and their African allies, that was destroying the heart of his beloved continent, the dying Livingstone pleaded for the three ``Cs''--Commerce, Christianity, and Civilization--to join in a worldwide crusade to root out the evil. But a fourth ``C''--Conquest--was added, and though the original ideals were never lost, they were often secondary to realpolitik and greed. Villains, heroes, rogues--each responded to the call in his own fashion, but ``all conceived of it in terms of romantic nationalism.'' There was Stanley, the consummate self- promoter; King Leopold II of Belgium, who made the Congo his personal fief; the idiosyncratic General Gordon, sacrificed to the Mahdi; and a large cast of other luminaries. In alternating chapters, Pakenham describes the individual European powers' ventures and misadventures in a continent that, in reality, was incapable of ever fulfilling their grandiose expectations. Indeed, no one except the wily Leopold, who stashed his gains in a hidden bank account, really came out ahead. And what of the Africans themselves, who were to be saved by the three Cs? Pakenham's answer is unfashionably Panglossian: Europe gave a continent in thrall to slave traders and despots ``the aspirations for freedom and human dignity, the humanitarian ideals of Livingstone, even if Europe was seldom able to live up to them.'' More anecdotal than analytical, but a spirited and intelligent history of one of the most seminal events in Africa, whose legacy is not yet spent. History of Victorian Africa Exploration
By A Customer
"Scramble for Africa" is a military and diplomatic history of Victorian African exploration.

As a whole, the book is very good. The events are presented in a chronological order, cutting back and forth between the actions and maneuvers of the Great (Britain, France, and Germany) and Minor Powers (primarily Belgium) in different parts of the continent. One very import item making this book so informative is the use of maps. Parkenham has included enough maps to place all the actions. Frequently, histories need a period atlas in hand for reference. This one doesn't.

"Scramble" is about politicians, soldiers, merchants, missionaries, and explorers. Readers interested in the personalities (King Leopold of Begium, Gladstone, Livingston, Ali Pasha, etc.) who shaped the events in the European conquest of Africa and the early Imperialist era will get the most from the book. I personally found King Leopold to be like a spider in the web as he plotted to found the Belgian Congo. In general, Britains and Anglo-Saxons come out rather well in this history and Europeans and Middle Easterners less well.

If I can find fault in "Scramble" its because it is too Anglo-centric. The British historical contribution to the period and events is very detailed. The French less so. The Portogeuse, Spanish, and Italian is almost absent or incidental. For example, British Imperial expeditions are described right down to the participating units (Guards Grenadiers, etc.); while French expeditionary missions described confuse Colonial Marines with Legion units.

Even though this is a military and diplomatic history, the economic aspect of the story is missing. The search for gold I can understand. Buried in the narrative is the importance of the African export of Palm Oil. However, I don't understand the price of or use of the ivory they (Europeans and native Africans) were slaughtering elephants for and hauling out of Africa.

Parkenham's narrative is excellent and highly readable. This book is recommend more as a peek into the personalities of the movers and shakers of Victorian times then as a history of African development.

The Dark Continent's Darkest Chapter
By T. Graczewski
It would be an understatement to write that Thomas Pakenham embraced an ambitious project in crafting a comprehensive, single-volume history of the European colonization of Africa over the course of some four decades a century ago. Few authors could have succeeded after having bitten off so much. Fewer still could have made it accessible to the layman and an immensely enjoyable read at that. Pakenham is the rare talent able to pull off such a feat.

The story Pakenham tells involves countless actors, but at the center of the great conquest from beginning to end is the Belgian King Leopold, whose imperial actions, clothed in the righteous language of development and humanitarianism, did more than anyone else to spur on the exploration and exploitation of Africa. As Pakenham describes him, "Leopold was a Coburg millionaire, a constitutional monarch malgre lui, a throwback from the age of absolutism, with the brain of a Wall Street financier and the hide of an African rhinoceros." From his ostentatious palace at Laeken, Leopold kept a close eye on developments in the exploration of Africa and saw in it his great opportunity to make a fortune, all in the name of the "3 Cs": Christianity, Commerce, and Civilization.

The "3 Cs" served as the foundation for most European imperialist of the time - Henry Stanley, his rival Pierre Brazza, Sir George Goldie, Frederick Lugard and others. A twenty-first century cynic could argue that the European intervention in Africa was motivated by capitalist greed, pure and simple. But Pakenham argues that a genuine desire to help the continent develop through the guiding light of Christianity was a central and perhaps the most important motivating factor in the decision to engage in African adventures by key elements in London, Paris and elsewhere. That said, commerce provided the extra pull that made large-scale action inevitable. After the early reports from Livingstone, himself a genuine and sincere Christian humanitarian, Africa captured the fascination of Europe with the potential of untold riches in this last unexplored frontier on earth. Indeed, the early years of "the Scramble" resembled a stock market bubble as investors rushed in motivated primarily by the fear of losing out by dithering on the sidelines.

One of the more surprising aspects of European colonialism in Africa, especially the British in the early years of the Scramble, is how much they conquered with such little direct government investment. London frequently leveraged private enterprise to do the heavy lifting on the ground and direct foreign investment to develop the local infrastructure. Companies were given charters by London and had the exclusive right to make their fortunes under the protective flag of the British Empire. The most notable examples were Sir George Goldie's Royal Niger Company that exploited the trade in modern day Nigeria and Cecil Rhodes' various enterprises mining diamonds and gold in the republics of South Africa.

The difficult part about Pakenham's "Scramble" is that there are so many actors over so many decades operating on so many fronts that it is a challenge to keep everything straight - Isandlwana, Adowa, Majuba, Khartoum, Fashoda, Omdurman, etc. But Pakenham's prose is so engaging that the reader becomes absorbed and presses on.

In sum, "The Scramble for Africa" is a delightful read and a great overview of an unprecedented exercise in foreign domination and exploitation, the legacy of which we very much live with today. Much of the material is presented at a high level. For instance, Pakenham has also authored an authoritative 500-page history of the Boer War, an event that is covered in "The Scramble" in a mere 25-page chapter late in the book. So those with an interest in specific episodes of African colonialism will be better served with more focused works, but no other book will piece all the parts together so well.

Fascinating account
By Tim Weber
Thomas Pakenham's sprawling story of the slicing up of a continent by European powers is fascinating, well-written, well worth your time. It's interesting that surprisingly little of the colonization of Africa between 1876 and 1912 came by direct military conquest. No, England, France and Germany (principally) sank their teeth into the continent mostly in less direct ways that were just as dismaying. "The Scramble for Africa" presents a panorama of villains and heroes, both white and black, but paints it with sufficient shades of gray. Much of what happens is despicable to us today, but Pakenham helps us understand the whys. The book is not perfect. For American eyes, Pakenham assumes too much knowledge of British history and its political system. There are a lot of names to keep track of, and there is an occasional lack of clarity as to what precisely is going on. Pakenham also has a curious habit of not always making clear who is being quoted. Still, this is a strong, well-written, fascinating account of a strange, exciting period in world history.

There are symbols for low-calorie, time-saving, and money-saving recipes. There are 166 instructive line drawings done by Mel Klapholtz and 28 four-color photographs on 32 pages done by Will Rousseau. This was the first cookbook written by the award winning author, Jean Anderson. Anderson has a BS in Food and Nutrition from Cornell University and an MS in Journalism from Columbia University . She is a member of the James Beard Cookbook Hall of Fame and a charter member of Les Dames d'Escoffier and the New York Women's Culinary Alliance. She helped organize the James Beard Journalism Awards and for two years, co-chaired that committee. Though best known for her articles in Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Gourmet, More, Travel + Leisure and other magazines, Anderson served as assistant food editor, then managing editor of The Ladies' Home Journal, as contributing editor at Family Circle and Diversion magazines, as chief consulting editor for Reader's Digest cookbooks, and as food columnist for New York Newsday and the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. My Cookbook Bibles (Both Editions)
By Rebecca MBP
I bought both volumes in 1976 as part of a Double Day Book Club offer (choose six books free with subscription) never thinking that over the years the set would become my cooking bibles. When I married my southerner husband, he would often ask me to prepare dishes his mom used to make and the recipes in these volumes have never EVER failed me: rhubarb pie, shepherd's pie, collard greens, Maryland style crab cakes, eggs Benedict, prime rib roast, country biscuits with white gravy, and many more. As basic as these recipes were, the taste and flavors were authentic and restaurant quality. I once brought the rhubarb pie (using my husband's home grown rhubarb) to a party hosted by a local chef and he declared it was "the best rhubarb pie he ever tasted." I never shared my secret recipe. ;)

The Doubleday Cookbook
By plconsoli
This has been my favorite cookbook for years and years. The chili recipe is worth the whole book. Always find info or a great recipe. Friends, family and even strangers love my cooking. Without this book I would be lost in the kitchen. Thrilled to find it again. My original is falling apart at the seams. Kind of like the Velveteen Rabbit. Worn from years of love and cooking.
